Mama

Where?

She currently lives in Silvertown (Athlone). Her former house was in District 6, but the tragedy of apartheid moved her to a different location.

Why?

She is the mother of the family tree. Whenever there are family functions, she is the one that smiles the most. She is an iconic figure in the lives of her children and their descendants. She lives a very ordered life, and meal time is essential to her for family bonding. She is a hero to me.

Who?

Rosie “Mama” Brown. Born 18 November 1913, age, 99 years old. An orphan as a child. Fostered by Malaysian (Islamic practising) parents who she greatly respected. She got married at the age of seventeen to Charles Brown. She had 9 nine children, and five still remain to rejoice in their mother’s life. Charles ‘Derra’ Brown passed on in 1982. She never remarried after that, and her life is based on faith and family tradition.
