Koeberg Nuclear Power Station
Koeberg is the only commercial nuclear power station in South Africa. The remarkable thing about Koeberg is that although it is a nuclear power station which is often associated with environmental concerns, the area around Koeberg is very beautiful, and is surrounded by a nature reserve.
It has beautiful walking and bicycling tracks, and is home to a large number of bird species. It includes a beautiful fynbos, and the beaches around Koeberg are unspoiled.
Koeberg is situated 30km North of Cape Town CBD. It was built to supply electricity to the Western Cape. It was fully functional by 1985 when the second unit was finally synchronized into the grid. Koeberg has experienced a few hiccups since it was built, but engineers have over come the problems quickly and with out damaging the surrounding environment.
