Mr. Kim

I interviewed my guardian, Mr Kim. He has lived in this country for 10 years. He worked at Korea Telecom for 9 years. He said the company was quite a famous company in Korea. He stopped working because he wanted to go to another country to learn English, and he wanted his children to learn another language too. But his wife, Mrs Jo, didn’t want to come, and they argued about that for a long time- about a year. His children, both girls, were 13 and 8 years old, and he thought that it was a suitable age for them to learn English. He steadily persuaded his wife to come to leave Korea with perseverance, and she finally agreed to go. He thought about what country was suitable for them, and he realized South Africa was comparatively cheap, and he decided to go to South Africa. After he arrived, he couldn’t get a job because he didn’t speak English at all. So, he started a home-stay business. He bought a big house and started his business.  He said he could earn enough money to live on. Currently, there are two homestay students, including me. His eldest daughter studies Business Science at UCT, and the other daughter studies at Rustenberg High School.

In this country, he has had plenty of episodes. Last year, a robber invaded his house at midnight. There were 3 homestays in the house. Everyone in the house was sleeping except one of homestays who was awake at that moment. The robber came inside through the garage. Her room was very close to the garage, so he entered her room first. She pretended that she was sleeping in the bed. The robber took her Macbook, stand, and cell phone charger. Her cell phone was in her pajama pocket so she was able to save her phone. She was very scared.  After that, the robber took every electronic product in the living room. He stole cell phones, a laptop and money. It was first time that Mr. Kim experienced a burglary, and, after that incident he installed a security system.
